How to Set Up a Google Business Profile for Your Business
By Rockforth · 6 October 2026

When people search for a service near them, Google often shows business profiles first — with location, phone number, reviews and photos. A free Google Business Profile lets your business appear there.
Before you start
- A Google account you'll keep long-term for the business.
- Your exact business name as customers know it.
- Address (or service area if you visit customers).
- Phone number, website or WhatsApp, and opening hours.
- Good photos of your premises, products or work.
Steps to set it up
- 1. Go to Google Business Profile and sign in.
- 2. Enter your business name and choose the most accurate main category.
- 3. Add your location or service area.
- 4. Add contact details and opening hours.
- 5. Complete verification using the method Google offers.
- 6. Add a description, services, products and photos.
Common mistakes
- Adding keywords to your business name — this can break Google's guidelines.
- Choosing a vague category.
- Leaving hours or contact details out of date.
- Creating duplicate profiles.
