AI Video vs Traditional Video Production: When Should You Use Each?
By Rockforth · 6 October 2026

AI tools can now generate visuals, animate scenes and speed up editing. That raises a fair question: do you still need a camera crew? The answer depends on what the video needs to do.
Where AI video works well
- Concept visuals and storyboards before a shoot.
- Stylised or imaginative scenes that would be costly to film.
- Quick variations of social content and adverts.
- Animated explainers and motion graphics.
Where traditional production is better
- Showing your real products, people and premises.
- Events, weddings and real moments.
- Customer stories and interviews where authenticity matters.
- Content where accuracy and trust are essential.
Combining both
Many strong productions combine the two: real footage for authenticity, with AI-assisted visuals, effects or editing for speed and creativity.
Use AI responsibly
Be honest about what is real. Don't use AI to show products doing things they can't, or people who don't exist as real customers. Check rights and permissions for any material used.
